Can you accommodate walk-ins or same-day appointments?

All services require appointments. Daycare is first come, first served and appointments have priority. We cannot accommodate walk-in daycare at this time.

What happens if my dog gets sick or injured at Rruff House?

While we do our best to keep every guest safe and healthy, daycare, boarding, and grooming are inherently risky. Contagious diseases such as giardia and kennel cough are possible anytime dogs are together in close proximity. Injuries may occur from running and wrestling in daycare. Injuries like clipped nail quicks can occur during grooming.

If you have any questions about these risks or how we work to mitigate them, we are always happy to answer any questions you may have. One of our missions here is to educate the public as much as possible about canine health risks.

It is Rruff House policy to immediately report significant injuries to dog parents. Minor injuries will be reported upon pickup. If diarrhea, coughing, vomiting, or lethargy is observed dogs will be isolated. Veterinarian care will be sought as needed.

How does daycare work?

You can drop your dog off anytime during opening hours. While here, your dog gets to play the entire time in a supervised environment. When you're ready, come back to Rruff House and pick up your happy and tired pup.

What are the benefits of daycare?

Dogs get to socialize with other dogs and our staff the entire time they are under our care. They get exercise, walks (when the weather is nice), water, and lots of attention while here.

We have seen overweight dogs lose a few pounds after attending daycare regularly. And we always get reports that dogs fall asleep in the car before even leaving our parking lot after a day of 'Rruffhousing"!

But most significantly, we have seen dogs transform from shy, timid wallflowers into confident, well-socialized pups.

What is required to bring my dog in for daycare?

All dogs must meet the following requirements:

SHOTS: All dogs must be current on Rabies, Distemper, Parvo, and Bordetella vaccinations. If you do your own, keep the receipt, packaging, and stickers off the bottles for proof.

AGE: All dogs must be at least 16 weeks of age.

HEALTH: All dogs must be in general good health and free of ticks and fleas.

BEHAVIOR: All dogs must be non-aggressive towards other dogs and people. All dogs must not be protective of toys. All dogs must not be excessive barkers or suffer from severe separation anxiety.

APPLICATION: All dogs must complete Rruff House’s interview process to Rruff House’s satisfaction in its sole discretion. See "What happens during the New Dog Interview" below. An interview is needed if the dog is gone longer than 6 months.

EQUIPMENT: All dogs must be leashed when entering and exiting Rruff House.

BREED: Rruff House has no breed restrictions.

What happens during the New Dog Interview?

Daycare is not suitable for all dogs. As such, we have developed a process to ensure that we only allow dogs in who are a good fit and who will enjoy daycare.

We start by letting your dog get familiar with the space by themself and a trained staff member. Once they've had a good chance to sniff around and get comfortable, we introduce one dog that we know and trust. We monitor their interaction and look for signs of aggression. We repeat this process introducing more dogs and seeing how they respond after each level of increasing stimulation.

If your dog passes this initial screening, we place them in the play area with the larger group and monitor them throughout the day. We screen for excessive barking, aggression, separation anxiety, and whether or not your dog enjoys being in daycare. While we can and do work with dogs on minor problematic behavior while they're in our care, there are some issues we cannot correct on the spot. Not every dog is meant for daycare and that is okay!

How long does the New Dog Interview take?

We can go through the New Dog Interview in 3 hours. This service is free of charge for new playmates, and if your pup passes he is welcome to stay the whole day for the half-day rate ($25). If a dog is gone longer than 6 months, a new interview is mandatory.

What are the results of the New Dog Interview?

When you come to pick up your pup after their first day. We will tell you that your dog is either 1) a great fit for daycare and welcome back anytime; 2) needs a little bit of behavioral correction in certain areas or time to mature but we'd love to have them back someday; or 3) unfortunately your dog is not a good fit for daycare. The last result is never fun to hear but we work hard to make sure that Rruff House is a safe and fun environment for all comers.

Frequently Asked Questions - Current News

Do you board cats?

Yes!

Cat boarding starts at $25 per night. Check out our Cattery for more about cat boarding.

We don't offer cat daycare at this time.

Can I see where my dog/cat will be staying?

Absolutely! In fact we encourage it. We just ask to schedule the tour because bringing new faces through the facility causes added stress on the dogs and cats with us. We try to maintain a calm,  safe environment for everyone by keeping the same routine.

Will I get updates about my pet while they are boarding or in daycare?

Yes you will! When using our services, an account will be created for you on our online platform.  Follow us on Facebook and Instagram to catch a photo or video of your pet also!

Are you hiring?

Periodically we have vacancies to fill. Be sure to follow us on Facebook for any job postings. You are welcome to bring in or email a resume that we can keep on file.
